About Mexico

Can I bring American dollars?

Yes, American dollars are recognized and accepted in Mexico. Please note that we are a cash-free resort and require a credit or debit card to cover all of your wedding payments.

Is it easy to enter into Mexico?

Yes, entering Mexico is easy, as long as you have a valid passport from your country of origin.

What is the time zone?

Los Cabos, Mexico is in the Mountain Time Zone.

General Wedding Questions

Do we need to send any documentation prior to arrival?

Yes. All legal documentation  must be sent at least one month in advance to verify all information. Also, you must have all original documentation with you when you arrive at the resort.

Documentation will only apply for legal ceremonies.

Do you hold destination weddings at your resort?

Yes, we offer a full spectrum of wedding services and venues at all of our resorts. Our experienced wedding planners can help you with all of the details, from choosing the right venue and dining menus to arranging group activities and accommodations.

How can we confirm our wedding date?

Our wedding department is happy to reserve a tentative date with you in advance. Once we receive your deposit and the signed contract, we will reserve and confirm that date with you.

How many days do we need to arrive prior to the ceremony?

For a legal wedding, Mexico requires that you arrive in the country at least four business days prior to the event. Saturdays, Sundays and Mexican holidays do not count. Your arrival day does not count towards the business day requirement. You must arrive four full business days prior to the event.

How much time would we need to reserve our wedding in advance?

Weddings should be reserved at least three months in advance. Please consider weekends and high season has more demand than weekdays and low season periods.

What is the difference between legal (civil), religious and symbolic ceremonies?

Only a civil ceremony is legally recognized. A religious ceremony has no legal bearing and does not replace in any way the binding legal civil marriage. A renewal of vows or religious ceremony is a symbolic ceremony. It is performed by a non-denominational minister and is simply a symbolic ceremony, not a legally valid wedding. Please note that Catholic ceremonies cannot be performed outside the church.

What services does your wedding planner provide? Is there a fee?

There is no fee for using our wedding coordination services. A specialist will assist you prior to and on your special day. Our coordinators will be there throughout the entire wedding planning period to answer any questions you may have about your event.

Questions about the ceremony and reception

Are indoor spaces air-conditioned?

Yes, we offer air conditioned indoor venues at our Playa Grande Resort and Grand Spa locations.

If we want our wedding on the beach, what is the set-up?

At Playa Grande Resort you can have a beautiful wedding ceremony on the beach, then celebrate with a reception at our oceanfront terrace. Due to the proximity of the ocean and changing tide conditions, we do not offer beach weddings at Grand Solmar Land's End, however our gazebo is beautiful and very close to the beach.

Is the wedding performed in English or Spanish?

Legal wedding ceremonies are performed in Spanish. Symbolic ceremonies and vow renewals are performed in English. If necessary, please ask your wedding coordinator for a translator.

What do you offer in the way of decorations?

Decorations are available at an additional charge and are made to order per your instructions and personal style. Please discuss the options with your wedding coordinator.

What if I don't have a witness?

If you do not have friends, family or other guests that can serve as your witnesses, the resort can provide witnesses for you at an additional cost.

What private indoor and outdoor areas of the resort are available for a wedding?

Weddings at Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa are performed in our wedding gazebo. Weddings at Playa Grande Resort and Grand Spa are performed on the beach in our wedding huppa.

What time of day do most destination weddings occur?

Most of our guests choose to celebrate with a romantic sunset ceremony. You may choose your favorite time of day for your own wedding ceremony and reception celebration.

Calculating the Cost of a Destination Wedding

If I want to bring friends and family members, do you offer a discount on the price of rooms?

Yes, group rates are available when you book ten rooms or more. Please visit our website's booking engine to find the best rate available for your group.

What is the cost of a destination wedding at your resort, or is it included in the price of our stay?

We offer a choice of three different wedding packages. Rates and inclusions depend on your preferred package choice. You may add any additional elements at an additional cost. Please contact our events coordinator for specific details.

What is the location fee?

For your convenience, only one wedding is scheduled per day at each of our resorts. The location fee for holding your wedding at Grand Solmar is $4,000 USD, and the location fee at Playa Grande Resort is $1,500 USD.

Destination Wedding Details

Can you email me suggested menus for the reception?

We have several wedding menus to choose from. You may request menu choices from your wedding coordinator, who will be happy to email them to you.

How long is the ceremony?

For your comfort and the comfort of your guests, our wedding ceremonies generally last around 20 minutes.

What do you do if I schedule an outside ceremony and reception -- and it rains? Do you have a picture of the backup plan?

If your wedding is at Playa Grande Resort & Grand Spa, we can easily move your ceremony into our ballroom. If your wedding is at the Grand Solmar, we can move it to one of our spacious restaurant venues.

What time is the sunset and the approximate temperature an hour before?

The sun sets between 5pm and 8pm, depending on the season. The temperature also depends on the season. Once you have an exact date, your wedding coordinator can supply more specific information about the expected weather.

What types of flowers are available locally? Do you have a flower vendor?

We use a trusted local vendor, and they offer almost every type of flower. Not all flowers are available locally, however, so please speak to your wedding coordinator if you are planning on having exotic flowers or winter season flowers. Our vendor should be able to import them (prices are higher for imported flowers).

Who performs the ceremony at your resort?

A local judge or minister will come to our resort to perform your marriage ceremony.

Will someone be available to iron my wedding dress?

The resort does not offer steaming or ironing services, however there are many local companies that do. Prices depend on the dress material and size of the garment. Ask our wedding planners for a list of providers.

Destination Wedding Legalities - Mexico

Are witnesses required?

Yes, four witnesses must arrive 4 days prior to the ceremony. Witnesses must present their passports and copy of tourist cards (green sheet received at the airport). If you do not have any witnesses, they can be provided by the hotel.

Can I have a doctor perform the test in my country and take the results to the resort?

No, the blood test must be done in Mexico in order to be valid. Unfortunately, no exceptions can be made.

Do we need proof of any medical tests?

Yes, a you must have a blood test taken by a licensed medical professional. Your blood tests must be performed in Mexico and should not be performed more than 14 days prior to the wedding ceremony.

I was divorced less than one year ago. Can I have my civil ceremony at the resort?

Unfortunately, if you have been divorced you cannot have a civil ceremony in Mexico. You will need to wait at least one year before you marry again. If you have been divorced at least one year, you must bring a copy of your divorce decree as proof.

If my name is different from the passport and birth certificate will this present problem?

In order for the marriage documents to be finalized and legal in Mexico, you must provide a valid explanation and proof of different names (ie. divorce, birth certificates, etc).

Is there someone who can handle the legal details for us and will guide us through the process?

Yes, your wedding coordinator will deal directly with our local officials to coordinate the legalized wedding process and take care of all of the details before your ceremony.

What are the requirements to get a marriage license in Mexico?

To obtain a marriage license, you must provide: -A valid passport -A Tourist Card (green sheets that you receive at the airport) -A certified birth certificate for the Bride & Groom -A health certificate and blood test provided by a Mexican Official* -If applicable, a final Record of Divorce from prior spouse -If applicable, a Death Certificate from prior spouse Bride & Groom must arrive 4 days prior to the ceremony (Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays do not count). *Additional costs apply.
